In Fall of 2007, Slippery Rock Student Government Association was awarded a $5000 Green and Growing Grant from the Pittsburgh 250 Community Connections program. Half of the money received was handed over to the Green Bike Initiative which, with the money, was able to purchase several new one-speed bicycles for use by students and community members alike in the Slippery Rock community. They were also able to purchase a supply of tools and parts to maintain the bicycles. With the remaining $2500, SRSGA purchased a number of trees to plant around campus as well as partially fund the purchase of furniture made from recycled materials for the new SGA Pavilion in the Bailey Library Quad. The furniture was assembled and put on site in early November, 2008.
On Friday, September 26, 2008, SRSGA and all involved parties held a dedication ceremony at the SGA Pavilion at 7:15 p.m. to reflect on how this grant money has helped our campus grow in a sustainable fashion. More than 65 people attended this wonderful event. Check back soon for photos.
